Montreal’s Pouzza Fest takes place later this week from May 19-21, and we’re happy that we’ve had the chance to count down to this festival with you. We have been chatting with a number of the Canadian lineup to get everyone ready for the big event, and we are having a blast doing so. With only today and tomorrow left in our countdown, we are happy to chat with Jen Unbe.

First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?

Hi there! I’m Jen Unbe, former frontwoman for Toronto’s pop punk darlings, Unbelievers.

Pouzza Fest is in May, which is really the beginning of the summer festival season, how to prepare for the festival season?

My recipe for the ultimate fest experience: Grab your best girls and guys, wear sunscreen, drink lots of water, smoke good weed and be nice.

Have you taken part in Pouzza Fest before? If so, what is your favourite memory?

Pouzzafest and Hugo Mudie have a held a sweet spot in my heart since Pouzza 1 when Unbelievers was booked to play at Fouf’s opening for The Sainte Catherines, Lifetime and The Queers. As if that wasn’t enough Hugo chose my band and one other band to perform live on Musique Plus to promote Pouzzafest. That absolutely blew me away and is still one of my very favourite music memories to date. Yay Hugo Mudie and Pouzzafest!

There’s quite a big line-up at Pouzza Fest, who are you most excited to check out at the festival?

There are gonna be some great shows but if I have to pick just one I gotta say Lagwagon. When I moved out from my mom’s years ago the first thing I bought happened to be a Lagwagon shirt. I still have that shirt and I’m def wearing it to the fest this year.

Are you performing at any other festivals this summer that you’d like to tell us about?

Pouzza is my only festival this summer.

Describe your live show in 5 words, and GO!

Breaks and mends your heart,

If you were asked to give an up and coming artist some advice, what would that advice be?

Love what you do and it will love you back

What’s up next for you?

I’m currently working in the studio with producer Michael Hanson (formerly of the 80’s iconic Canadian band, Glass Tiger) and aiming to release some new music this summer so stay tuned!
