Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Bishop Brigante and I’m a hip-hop recording artist and actor from Toronto’s east end. I’m also one of the co-hosts for the world’s biggest rap battle league, King Of The Dot.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

My music style is all based off of feelings and vibes I get during my writing process. But I would say that I find myself creating a more worldly vibe when speaking about my survival. I come from some pretty harsh upbringings so I like to offer a “light at the end of the tunnel” type of vibe in my music. I’m definitely a product of my environment.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I do have shows coming up that everyone can find on my website – bishopbrigante.com. As far as my live shows go, it’s something I always put a lot of time into. I always have the crowd participating in some capacity so the energy is always at level 10. I want you to feel something at my shows but  most importantly, I want you to feel good when you leave. We always end on that positive vibe when it’s all said and done.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would say it’s a toss up between “About to Change” and “Hard Times.” These are the two songs I feel really etched my name into the minds of the people. I speak about real life situations that not a lot of artists in our country talk about. I really wanted the listener to feel what it’s like to experience what we do in our communities. I feel like I’ve done a great job with those two songs, I’m very proud of them.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists? I’m a huge supporter of PartyNextDoor. I think the way he sings and creates music is amazing and it’s good to see him finally getting some big accolades and placements with other huge artists (like Rihanna’s “Work” that he co-wrote) that appreciate his songwriting talent as well. I’m always looking forward to some new Party music when it drops.
