Winnipeg Folk Festival is Back for its 44th Year

The 44th Winnipeg Folk Festival takes place from July 6 to 9, 2017, in Birds Hill Provincial Park, Manitoba. This annual festival is a North American premier outdoor folk music festival and this year’s line-up has proven to be incredible with headliners City and Colour, The Shins and Feist. Local favourites Joey Landreth, John K. Samson and Begonia are set to perform. Other big name acts include Barenaked Ladies, Brandi Carlile, Bruce Cockburn and Daniel Lanois. Happy folkies will not be disappointed with the stellar talent performing on all the stages.

The festival’s artistic director Chris Frayer had this to say of the lineup:

“This year’s lineup is a culmination of many influences and inspirations. Having the chance to travel abroad on behalf of the festival to discover talent creates a great opportunity to bring that sense of discovery back home to the summer fest to share. Over our 44-year history, our audience has come to expect and be moved by the musical diversity on our stages and this year’s festival won’t disappoint. The 2017 Winnipeg Folk Fest is full of incredible talent and will be another musical adventure to remember for years to come.”

And, it’s not just listening to the music. Dancing is a huge part of Folk Fest. There are special areas near all the stages just for dancing including the crowd favourite – Big Blue @Night dancing zone. What about the Main Stage tarp shuffle? This is so cool and is a Folk Fest tradition for all those who like to grab a spot close to the Main Stage.

Hi all. I’m Nanci Dagg. I am from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and have lived my entire life here. There is nothing I like better than supporting local artists followed by supporting Canadian artists. Although I was a classic rock gal, my go to genre is country. Something about this music that just makes me feel great. I can be found at most country music concerts and shows (from someone’s house to really large venues) taking lots of pictures. Music and photography are two of my passions. Add to this mix, writing about artists, well let’s say, life doesn’t get better than this.
