Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Christine Campbell.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

My influences are mostly 70’s blues based rock.  Guitar is my favourite thing to play, especially electric. But piano was my first instrument and is sometimes a cool way to come at a song from a different perspective.  I like writing with people and finding synergistic connections. And sometimes, things happen in my life that just write a song for me. Me and an acoustic, that has been the traditional way for me to write, but now I’m having a lot more fun with garage band.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

There are lots of shows happening and in the midst of being confirmed. Check out the website at christinecampbellmusic.com for more deets. It depends what type of show you’re into. Sometimes people like the intimacy of an acoustic show and others prefer the full on, five-piece electric experience. All the guys in the band are great at harmonizing and super skilled at their instrument. Blake Johnston my wingman, is an incredible singer/guitar player so it’s fun playing off one another. There’s my classical piano background that adds to the dynamic too. Essentially, I have a very short attention span and I like a show that keeps me continuously entertained. I like old styles of music but there are a lot of things about today I like as well, like guitar pedals, effects etc.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

This is a toughy because there are aspects of my songs that all have different meaning to me but there are two songs I’ve spent by far the most amount of time on, and were written during some dark periods of my life. So I’d probably say Exit out and Roller Coaster are the two I have the deepest connection to. Exit out has a classic sound that sits right in the middle of everything I do, whereas roller coaster, is all over the place, like me and my life. It’s why I named my new album after it. I’m sorry, I know that’s two.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

I always hate mentioning my fav bands cause later I’ll think of some I should’ve added, but; Big Sugar, April Wine, Big Wreck, Matt Mays, Classified are the more well known ones I love. There are actually a ton of halifax based bands I love, but I think I’ll cap it there or the list will get long.
