Celebrating a landmark twenty-five year career, The Real McKenzies are back with their 10th album, Two Devils Will Talk, and it’s a doozy.

From the very opening track “Due West” this album grabs you by the scruff of the neck and throws you into an emotionally charged and riotous experience. Bursting with full bagpipe melodies and poignant lyrics, Two Devils rolls like the sea and begs for pints to be raised.

I have to admit it was hard for me to pick a favourite song from this album. I listened to it for almost two days straight and from the magnificent cover of Stan Rogers’ “Northwest Passage” to the cheeky “Fuck the Real McKenzies” this album is just plain fun. There isn’t a bad song on it. Although, I do think it should come with a Surgeon’s General warning – I may have thrown out my neck.

I know Celtic punk isn’t unique to Canada, but something about it feels as Canadian as maple syrup, albeit a maple syrup that will kick you in the teeth. One of the bands foremost in making that a reality and bringing the Celtic punk movement to a forefront is The Real McKenzies, and with Two Devils Will Talk they can rest assured their legacy is still intact.
