BC based singer/songwriter, Kellen Saip released an EP entitled Take Me Away last year, which was produced by Cory Woodward of Lion Bear Fox. You can buy the EP here! On top of that, Kellen is heading on a tour throughout BC with Del Suelo this March, you’ll find dates below. We were happy to have the opportunity to chat a bit with Kellen during this Five Questions With segment! Enjoy!

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Absolutely!! My name is Kellen Saip, I’m a singer songwriter originally from little old Ladner BC now residing in Chilliwack.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

My music really keeps growing with me as an artist and a person. As I get older and experience different things so does my musical pallet. I write alot about experiences that I have gone through but also try to incorporate songs that tell  fictional stories that arnt about a certain person necessarily but about real stuggles or battleling the demons life can spawn at any time.  As for the sound of my music I like to keep my toes in many ponds mostly folk and blues undertones.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

I have a few local shows one with the happy go lucky Kwerks March 3 at The Stage in Mission and a tour coming up with an artist named Del Suelo he is also an author and a great one at that. We do the lower mainland and the the island. (Dates below)

March 18 – Cafe Deux Soleils, Vancouver
March 19 – Railyard, Mission

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

Tough one!! Ummm well my wife and I recently welcomed our first child into the world about 10 months ago and while she was pregnant I wrote a song for my daughter it’s the last track on the EP her name and also the song name is Esmae. It’s very important to me and is alot slower and sweeter than alot of the other stuff I do.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

So many great Canadian artists right now it’s so awesome to see. I’d have to give it up to my boys in Lion Bear Fox! they just released a new record that is stunning and they continue to work so hard musically while balancing a family life it’s very inspiring. Also Andrew Phelan is doing his thing always keeping an eye on him, and my brothers Jake Touzel and Jack Mercer and there bands always making moves! So many more apologies to everyone I missed GO Canada!!!!

I’m Jenna, and I am the founder and editor of Canadian Beats. I have had a strong love for Canadian music, which started with Hedley. I have a passion for promoting these talented Canadian bands and artists, and that’s how Canadian Beats came to be. I am so proud of what it has become over the last few years, with many talented music lovers and writers coming together to spread the word of Canada’s music.
