Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi, I’m Ralph, I like coffee and the smell of lilies, I like glittery things and good books, I like my showers hot and my jeans tight.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.

I describe my genre as synth-pop-disco-soul – kind of a hybrid between Donna Summers/Cher/Stevie Nicks/Sade but with a 2017 flair. I want to write great dance songs for my friends but am also very lyric driven – it’s very important to me that my songs always have emotional depth.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

My EP release is happening at the Drake Underground on March 22nd, I’m really excited. I have a live band behind me – I love having live instrumentation on stage, it helps me perform better. I also think having a real drum kit lends to the 70s/80s nostalgia within the Ralph sound. I have a lot of fun with my stage outfits too, nothing is off limits.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I just wrote a new song in LA called ‘Radius’, I think it might be my new favorite. BUT since that won’t be out for awhile, I would say ‘cold to the touch’. I think it’s a good example of blending retro and contemporary sounds – current pop rhythms and cool vocal delivery, with 80s synth sounds.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Charlotte Day-Wilson, Daniel Caesar, Charlotte Cardin, Frigs, Saya, Allan Rayman, DIANA
