Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We’re Port Cities, a trio of songwriting-singers originally from Cape Breton Island.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style. We play roots-rock music with strong pop sensibilities. We were all singers in our solo careers, so we sing together as much as possible with lots of three-part harmonies. We met at a songwriting retreat, so we are constantly collaborating and being influenced by the community of songwriters in Nova Scotia that we’re lucky to call ourselves a part of.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance? We’re touring across Canada this spring with our friend Rose Cousins. We try to keep our live show pretty energetic, with a few heart breakers thrown in there for variety.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be? Back to the Bottom- this is one of the first songs we started to perform as a band, and also the first single from our record.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists:

Breagh: Hannah Georgas
Carleton: Leif Vollebekk
Dylan: Drake
