Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I was involved in music at a very young age. The guitar was my first love around the age of ten, and that’s when I discovered songwriting. I started playing shows in and around my city of Edmonton, and I have travelled as far as Nashville, Toronto, and Ottawa. This March I am releasing my debut EP, and I just released the first single off of it called “Your Cigarettes”.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style

The songs off my EP were mostly inspired by heartbreak, which I find is the easiest to write about. I go through periods where I am constantly writing all day every day, and then I will have nothing for weeks. I would say the EP is leaning more towards pop, but it has some dark/folk/alternative elements. I still feel like I am evolving and learning so much everyday and I can’t wait to see what I come up with next.

Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

My next big show will be my EP release. For this show I will have a band backing me up, so it will be higher energy compared to my solo shows. Even though I absolutely love playing with a band, there’s something so healing and intimate about playing solo. Just me and my tele. I’ve recently purchased a loop pedal so I can add more to my solo shows, once I am confident enough with it.

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?

I would suggest my debut single ‘Your Cigarettes’. I am very proud of it lyrically and musically and I think it’s a good representation of me as an artist in this moment in time.

Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?

Dallas Green (City & Colour) will always be on my recently played and have special place in my heart. As for more recent artists, I am really digging Andy Shauf, Reuben And The Dark, and Emilie and Ogden.
