Interview – Madison Mueller

Barrie, Ontario´s Madison Mueller has recently released her debut single “Who Am I.”  I had the opportunity to ask the singer more about her music and the single.  Continue reading to find out more!

First off, can you introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi there, my name is Madison Mueller and I’m a 16 year old singer/songwriter who lives in Barrie, ON. I’m a grade 11 high school student who also loves being a fastball pitcher on a great baseball team. I have also been teaching piano and voice at The Spaulding School of Music since I was 13.

When did you begin pursuing music?  Did you have a favourite instrument to play? Why?

I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, but I first started getting involved with playing music at the age of six. I started taking piano lessons and instantly fell in love with playing the piano – which so happens to be my favourite instrument to play. Playing an instrument while performing live – especially the piano – has become such a comfort for me. It’s very strange when I don’t get to play while singing. It’s very natural for me, and it calms my nerves when I have them.

Who are your influences?

Oh gosh, too many to name. A few from the top of my head include John Lennon, Queen, Billy Joel, Supertramp, Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. I’m a huge fan of classic rock, among other genres, but I really look up to these bands/artists for numerous reasons.

You recently released your first single “Who Am I” through multiple outlets.  Whom, or what, inspired the song?

The song “Who Am I” is something I’ve heard a lot of people can relate to. When writing this song, I was being forced to choose my courses for my next year of high school. You have all these teachers and people telling you about what you have to choose if you want to go somewhere in life. That may work for some people, but I don’t know exactly what I’m doing with my life besides music yet, and I know I need a plan B. The pressure of that was weighing on my shoulders. I barely know what I’m going to have for dinner, never mind what I want to do for the rest of my life! I know eventually I have to make a decision, and I’m fine with that, but it’s especially difficult to do when you’re only 15 at the time of writing the lyrics. All those feelings happened to come out in the form of a song all about being scared for the future and not being prepared for changes.

Do you have any plans to release a music video to accompany the releaseDo you have any plans to release a music video to accompany the release?

So far, lots of people have been enjoying the song and downloading it! Some people already know it because of a previous upload of the song on YouTube a few months ago when it was first completed (it’s been changed a little bit since that version). I’ve heard a lot of good things about the song from followers and people I know, which is very heartwarming. I’ve also been asked about a video to go with the song, and that is currently in the works, hopefully released before the end of the year!

What can fans look forward to next from you?

I’m looking to record and produce an EP next, which will include three or four more songs! I’m aiming for a Feb release date . Besides that, I will continue to record songs and covers for YouTube, and I will definitely be playing live around southern Ontario! On the 16th of December, I will actually be playing at the Mod Club in acheter viagra Toronto for an event called RAW. That will be my largest crowd so far, and I will be playing a 30 minute set with me and my instruments! I’m very excited (and a little nervous)!

At Canadian Beats, we like to include fun questions to help fans get to know a bit more about you.

Who are your favourite Canadian artists?

How long is my list aloud to be? I’m a big fan of Trooper, Alanis Morissette, The Guess Who, Joni Mitchell, April Wine, Rush, The Tragically Hip, Finger Eleven, Avril Lavigne, Sarah Mclachlan… the list could seriously go on!

What was the first concert you attended?

I got the chance to see Trooper a few years ago at Kempenfest – which was amazing! But my first official concert was Hedley earlier this year and they put on a fantastic show!

What was the last album you purchased?

Oh boy, last CD I bought was either Vessel – twenty one pilots, or Everybody Wants – The Struts. Two absolutely amazing bands, I highly recommend giving a listen.

What was the last movie you watched? Do you recommend it?

The last movie I watched was the new Marvel movie Doctor Strange. To anyone who enjoys a movie that manages to be thought provoking, action packed and funny, I would definitely recommend. Worth the watch for sure!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you want to do?

I’ve always wanted to travel to Greece! I think it’s a beautiful place with plenty of sights to see. A few places I would love to see would be Athens, Zagori and several of the Greek islands. Very amazing historical places to visit – I don’t think I’d be bored for a second.

Finally, is there anything else you would like to say to our readers?

Well, I’d like to say that this is a first time thing for me, so I hope I did this decently. Also I would like to thank the people who are currently following me, enjoying what I do and I hope people who don’t know me give my music a listen. Thanks for taking the time!
