Laura Roy is one of Halifax’s newest singer-songwriters and she has just released her debut self-titled EP last month. The 6 track album is filled with upbeat music, synth pop that gets you dancing and catchy hooks that lure you into listening to more.

Instantly, I heard this and I can sense a mix of some of the biggest names in pop music like Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande. In my opinion, Roy has what it takes to be up there with these stars. The lyrics, the sound and the overall EP is strong, well written and catchy. It has all the elements that a pop album needs to thrive in the genre today.

I really enjoyed songs like “Bright Lights” and “Full Moon”. “Full Moon” reminds me of the 90’s music that I grew up listening to, like Ciara and early Rihanna. “Bright Lights” is probably what I would say is the most modern and #1 hit worthy song on the EP. It is definitely my favourite.

If you’re in the mood for a classic pop album with a twist, I recommend this one. It’s the perfect balance between 90s pop and today’s up beat and catchy hits. Roy’s vocals are strong and she makes the East Coast proud.
