The 43rd Annual Winnipeg Folk Festival is fast approaching

The Winnipeg Folk Festival is a North American premier outdoor folk music festival held in Birds Hill Provincial Park, about 20 minutes north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It features a variety of folk artists from around the world, as well as a number of local artists. There are many stages to listen to your favourite artist; some are nestled in clearings in the woods, others in the middle of a prairie field with enough room to dance away all your worries.

The Folk Festival has grown into an event with attendance of over 80,000. This year, the festival begins on Thursday night, July 7 and runs through Sunday night, July 10.

There is a large variety of music at the festival, including bluegrass, Celtic, world, blues, roots, Indie folk, Americana, folk rock, gospel, old time, French Canadian, contemporary singer-songwriters and children’s performers. The Folk Festival believes that “by bringing together emerging talent and well-established artists, we influence and reshape the genre.” Included in this year’s line-up are Alan Doyle & the Beautiful Gypsies, Rosie & the Riveters, Basia Bulat, Ryan Adams and The Shining to name just a few.

The food vendors are like no other festival. If you want sweet and savory, vegan or dairy, meat or veggie and gluten free, it is all there. Past popular vendors have been brought back as well as a few new ones that will make your mouth water wanting to try all these delights!
