Countdown to Junos 2016 – Interview with Kieran Mercer

This year marks the first year that Canadian Beats will be attending the Juno Awards. The awards are taking place in Calgary, AB on April 3, 2016 and our writer, Heather Young will be there throughout the events of the week covering, so be sure to keep an eye out for her coverage on our social media sites, as well as the main website.

To add to the excitement, we’ve decided to do a countdown of interviews with some of the artists involved this year, whether they are nominated or performing at JUNOfest, and our very first is none other than Vancouver, BC based pop artist, Kieran Mercer. Kieran will be performing at JUNOfest on April 2, for more information, head HERE! Now it’s time to find out what Kieran has to say about performing at JUNOfest, as well as what he’s most excited for during the Junos 2016 activities!

First off, care to introduce yourself?

My name is Kieran Mercer and I’m a singer/songwriter from Vancouver British Columbia.

Where were you when you found out you were part of JunoFest?

I was rehearsing with my band for the tour I’m currently on with Walk off the Earth and Marianas Trench.

What can you tell us about your upcoming performance at JunoFest?

It’s going to have songs that we currently don’t have in our usual set, so people can expect a unique show.

What are you most looking forward to at the 2016 Juno awards festivities?

To meet all the other bands, and make connections with people I wouldn’t usually be able to meet.

Is there a specific performer you are anxious to see?

I’m really excited to see my label mates The Katherine’s perform. They always have a great set and I’m looking forward to what they will bring to JunoFest.

If you could give one up & coming Canadian band a piece of advice, what would it be?

Don’t give up… no matter what. You will fall flat on your face over and over again in this business, and it’s always the ones that keep getting back up that end up having a career.

What’s up next for you?

Just busy with the Never Say Die tour until April, and then I hope to head back to Ontario to continue promoting my EP “Help Me Help You.

Last but not least, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?

Get used to seeing a lot more of me this year!
