There’s no better way to ring in Canada Day than a show filled with some great Canadian bands. The show started off with a a fairly new local band, Gala. I hadn’t heard of this band before but I can definitely see why they were chosen to open this show. Next up was local synth pop favourites Repartee. This was actually their first show in St. John’s in about 10 months. They’re a super high energy band and I can’t think of any other band more suited to play with Tegan and Sara.

There was a bit of a wait before Tegan and Sara came on but that was quickly forgotten as soon as they started their first song, Goodbye Goodbye. During their second song, a fight broke out in the crowd and they completely stopped their song and told the people to leave. They played a good mix of old songs like Monday Monday Monday and Alligator as well as songs from Heartthrob including my personal favorites How Come You Don’t Want Me Now and Now I’m All Messed Up.

I saw Tegan and Sara last year for the first time. I didn’t know many of their songs, as I was mostly there to see the opening act. I was instantly hooked and so glad to see them come back less then a year later. If you haven’t seen them before I highly recommend checking out their show if it comes near you. I personally will now go see them anytime I get the chance.
