Genre – Melodic Death Metal

The melodic death metal band, Hollow, released their new album “Mordrake” today (May 30, 2014). I was lucky enough to get an advance listen of the album to review. It is their first studio album, following their first EP “Cynoptic Schaton”, released back in 2010.

When I first saw the genre, I was confused how something as hardcore as metal can be melodic. In a sense, I think I understand. The songs in this album have softer and more melodic music parts in the background and it adds a great contrast to it. It is a good addition to the already greatly intense music of the rest of the song.

My favourite songs on this album are “Landscape”, “Snow” and “Hate”. This album is a good addition to any head banging metal fan’s playlist.

Rating: 3.5/5
