Throwback Thursday – Rex Goudie

By: Tara Thompson

Now I’m not sure how many of you even remember Canadian Idol being around, but if you lived in Newfoundland in 2006 you couldn’t get away from hearing about Rex Goudie. He was in the newspaper, on the local news programs, everywhere you looked.

I’m not afraid to admit I was one of the people who lined up outside of Wal-Mart before it opened to get a copy of Under The Lights before I went to school that morning. I’m pretty sure the first single, Run, was the most requested song on Newfoundland radio for at least a month. His first tour in Newfoundland post-Idol (with winner and girlfriend at the time, Melissa O’Neil) sold out 3 or 4 dates within probably an hour.

I’m Tara and I’m a graphic designer from Newfoundland. In 2004, I found out who Hedley were are they became my first favorite band and 11 years later they still have that top spot for me. I am very fortunate to live in a city where there is a ton of amazing musicians. I’ve grown very fond of the local music scene in St. John’s and some of my favorite bands are ones I’ve met through going to local shows.
