Throwback Thursday – Tegan and Sara – The Con

By: Tara Thompson

Tegan and Sara’s fifth studio album, The Con, was released July 24, 2007. It features singles ‘Back In Your Head’, ‘The Con’ and ‘Call It Off’.

Tegan says the album is “very dark and also very much about reflecting and getting older and long-term relationships and the end of things.” This comes from it being written in a tough time for the twin sisters with the death of their grandmother, the end of a 5 year relationship for Tegan and Sara dealing with Canadian immigration to allow her girlfriend to get a working visa so they could live together.

The album debuted at number 34 selling 19,000 copies in its first week but dropped to number 69 when it only sold 10,000 the following week.

I’m Tara and I’m a graphic designer from Newfoundland. In 2004, I found out who Hedley were are they became my first favorite band and 11 years later they still have that top spot for me. I am very fortunate to live in a city where there is a ton of amazing musicians. I’ve grown very fond of the local music scene in St. John’s and some of my favorite bands are ones I’ve met through going to local shows.
