What inspired you to first start playing music?

DM: I come from a very musical family. My father is a professional trumpet player so I’ve been surrounded by music my entire life. I also realized that a career in the NBA was not in the cards for me so I took up singing instead.

Who is your biggest musical influence?

DM: Other than my dad, my favourite singer is either Brendon Urie (Panic! At The Disco) or Elvis. As for the band I would say our musical influences are Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, Blink 182, Yellowcard and other bands like that!

If you could work with any band or artist, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

DM: Personally, I’d love to work with Brendon Urie. I think he would be a lot of fun to work with and he’d challenge us to come up with some interesting ideas.

If you could tour with any band or artist, who would it be?

DM: All Time Low.

If you weren’t in the music industry, what do you think you’d be doing?

DM: Probably working at an old folks home or something

If there was one thing that you could change about the music industry, what would it be and why?

DM: We’ve met some shady characters and people who are really full of themselves. But most people are awesome! So my answer to that is more nice people!!

What kinds of things inspire you to write new songs?

DM: Girls, life experiences

A lot of bands are connecting with fans through social media. Do you think this is an important tool for musicians?

DM: VERY important. We actually got some of our most loyal fans from Brazil through twitter. Shout to our July Brazil peeps!!

You have quite a few Canadian tour dates coming up, which place(s) are you looking forward to playing the most?

DM: I’m personally really looking forward to play in Halifax. I’ve heard really nice things about the east coast and I’ve never been so I’m stoked.

If you were ever in charge of putting together a festival, who would you have playing at it?

DM: Panic, Fall Out Boy, NFG, Chiodos, ATL, Yellowcard, Mayday Parade so many other bands haha it’d be an expensive festival to go to.

Now a few fun questions

What is the first song you remember listening to?

DM: Backstreet boys haha or something from a broadway musical.

What was the first CD that you bought?

DM: Sum 41 All Killer No Filler

Any guilty pleasures?

DM: I don’t believe in guilty pleasures haha I’m not ashamed. But one that some people wouldn’t guess is my love for the 50’s doo-woop era of music

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

DM: I’m actually doing this interview while I sit in my hotel room in Japan. Which is in my top 5 places to visit. So far it’s amazing!

What is your favourite childhood memory?

DM: Going to my grandparents house and playing in their huge backyard

Favourite flavour of ice cream?

DM: Cotton Candy

Favourite TV show/movie?

DM: King Of The Hill

Favourite book?

DM: i don’t really read books haha
